Original documents related to a record-breaking Boeing B-47 bomber flight on November 17-19, 1954 with 43d Bomb Wing commander Colonel David A. Burchinal. Official orders show he received a "reduced" medal for his time as a wing commander: a slap in the face for a WWII pilot who had earned a Silver Star and a Distinguished Flying Cross. In a 1975 historical interview he admitted to the stunt and explained why his commanding general couldn't court-martial him for it.
